HealthLight does not burn skin
Some photo therapy devices have been reported to cause burns, so it is understandable that some people may wonder: Will a HealthLight Photo Therapy System burn my skin?
The answer is an emphatic “No!” A HealthLight Photo Therapy System will not burn your skin. HealthLight Series 1 systems are completely temperature neutral and Series 2 systems only increase in temperature by, at most, four degrees. HealthLight Photo Therapy Systems have never caused burns.
Cool photo therapy
There is no therapeutic reason for a photo therapy system to deliver a significant amount of heat. We know that heat can be relaxing, however a malfunction in a heat-generating device can cause burns. Therapeutic-strength light delivers energy to the body without a need for heat. We designed HealthLight systems to keep the temperature as low as possible while also delivering therapeutic light.
Products that heat up are especially a concern among patients (such as those with diabetes mellitus or peripheral neuropathy) whose nerves may not tell the brain when something is too hot — hot enough to burn them. It is also a concern when a heating device is placed on a body part that doesn’t have a lot of nerve endings such as the back. In these situations, burns can occur and the patient can be totally unaware of it until they discover blisters. HealthLight Systems are designed avoid this problem.
